Tips while you wait for a program to open

  • Get your documents ready now: high school transcript or GED, driver’s license, birth certificate or Social Security card and, for veterans, your DD-214. Several programs turn away applications that are missing documents.
  • Brush up on algebra and reading. Most electrical and pipe trades programs give an aptitude test before the interview.
  • Programs marked “Employer-sponsored” want you hired first. Call contractors that belong to that association and ask for a helper job.

Free help in Idaho: the Idaho Department of Labor has workforce consultants who can point you to apprenticeships near you, and Idaho LAUNCH can help pay for training at several Idaho colleges.
